4th Annual Vintage Hills Elementary
Read-A-Thon January 28, 2022 – February 4, 2022 The Vintage Hills Elementary PTA is hosting the 4th Annual Dragon Read-A-Thon, open to all students!
The purpose of this event is to encourage our students to develop a lifelong love of reading while raising money to support our school. Our goal this year is $8,000, which will go toward new library books, assembly activities, field trips, campus improvement (counseling room), emergency supplies, and curriculum storage. Suggested donation: $30. GO DRAGONS! How it Works January 28, 2022 through February 4, 2022 Step 1: Click on the link for 99Pledges, find your student’s name in the “search for participant” drop down box and donate. Forward the 99Pledges link or QR Code to family and friends for donations toward our goal. https://app.99pledges.com/fund/4thannualdragonreadathon Step 2: Reading time! Complete the Reading Bingo Card. Step 3: Participate in fun weeklong activities at school, including a Winter Poem Contest, StoryWalk® and Book Exchange, Author Readings, and Cookie & Cocoa Party! Bring a book to give starting on Monday, January 31, and then bring $2 for hot chocolate/$1 for a cookie on Wednesday, February 2. Friday, January 28, 2022 Reading Bingo Cards Reading Bingo Cards will be distributed to students in class. Students are welcome to begin reading to complete their bingo cards as soon as they get them! Completed bingo cards should be placed in their classroom’s Read-A-Thon basket by Friday, February 4. Students who complete a Reading Bingo card will be entered into a raffle for prizes on Friday, February 4. Prizes include gift cards to Jersey Mike’s, Noland’s Cake Shop, and Coldstone Creamery! Everyone who turns in a completed Reading Bingo Card will receive a bookmark or pencil. The top earning class will receive a POPSICLE PARTY. AND if we meet our goal of $8,000, the entire school will get to celebrate with a PAJAMA DAY!!! Click on the 99Pledges Link to find your student’s donation page 99Pledges is the Fundraising website being used this year for the Read-A-Thon donations. Simply click on the link below or scan the QR code, and find your student’s name in the search box, “Search for Participant”. Students can share their link or QR Code with family and friends to earn donations. 99Pledges will keep track of student’s and class’s progress during the week. All donations should be collected via 99Pledges by Friday, February 4. If you don’t find your student’s name in the “search for participant” drop down menu, you can still donate to the Vintage Hills Dragon Read-A-Thon main fundraising page, and simply add your student’s name in the note section to your donation. Monday, January 31, 2022 Write a “Winter” Themed Poem Students will have the opportunity to write and submit a poem with the theme of “Winter,” for a chance to be published in the Pleasanton Weekly, Dragon Digest, and the Yearbook. All types of poetry are encouraged, word limit 200. Submissions should be emailed by Friday, February 4 to: [email protected] Book Exchange Students are invited to bring one to two (read/loved/used) books to participate in a book exchange within their grade level. Books should be placed in the bins at the front entrance, according to grade, starting on Monday, January 31 through Wednesday, February 2. The exchange will start on Monday, January 31. StoryWalk® Students can enjoy fresh air, exercise, and read a short book with our very own StoryWalk®, featuring page boards from the book “Hallelujah Flight” by Phil Bildner, which will be in the outdoor field (or in the MPR if it is raining). Students will have the opportunity to complete the StoryWalk® all week. (The StoryWalk® Project created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library is a registered service mark owned by Ms. Ferguson.) Wednesday, February 2, 2022 Cookie & Cocoa Party! Students are invited to purchase delicious hot chocolate ($2) and/or chocolate chip cookies ($1) after school at the front entrance. Warm up and sip hot chocolate while supporting your school! Students and/or parents should bring cash or credit card. Author Readings The following local authors will be sharing their wonderful children’s books in class with our students: Nidhi Kaur American Sign Language by the illustrator. Raffle Students will automatically be entered in the raffle if they have completed their bingo card!
